After retiring in 1995, continuance in the MCW Physiology Department in a full time professional equivalent category as Co-Director (with Dr. Julian Lombard) of the M-1 Course in Medical Physiology has allowed for analyzing and publishing of data accumulated during the previous 25 years of active research, which could not be published because of lack of time. This research had been directed towards elucidation of the physiological effects of chronic malnutrition in Cali, Colombia, mostly in relation to maximal work capacity, energy expenditure and intake in adults and children during growth. In recent years, our work has centered on the physiological hurdles faced by women in developing economies and their adaptation to various forms of deprivation; economic, nutritional, etc. Also, we had begun to look into the multiple physiological problems affecting teenage pregnancies. These data are being analyzed.
